Well, I have delved into this blog thing. Hopefully this will be a great way for me too keep in touch with all of you; my friends and family back home. Well, where should I begin...We have been here since late May 2006. Iwakuni is a great place. Unlike Okinawa, we are located on the Mainland in Japan. This has allowed us to move about freely and do some sight seeing. This has ultimately been limited to Hiroshima and other places a couples hours drive since Ashley is now 34 weeks pregnant. Next week, we will travel to Yokosuka, Japan. We ventured out in town to check out the facilities and let's just say it was different than what we are used in regards to childbirth in the states. So we chose to go to another base that can support childbirth. It sucks though because it is kinda far from Iwakuni and I run the risk of not being there for the birth. They will pay for me to go up 10 days prior to the birth, but what if the baby comes early??? We are hoping for the best. Recently, I participated in a truck pull (11-ton Mack truck) and my team took 2nd. We got 100,00 yen (112 yen= $1.00). So we each made out with about $200.00. It was fun and was a great way to help with community relations. I just bought a new car, a 1995 Nissan Skyline. This thing is quick. I blew the fuel pump the day after I bought it, but I got it fixed and it runs like a champ. I will try and post almost weekly and more frequently as things pop up. For now, here are some pictures to hold everyone over until my next post....Chris
